Yesterday was a quick train ride from La Spezia to Genoa. We caught the free transit bus ,which luckily was waiting for us at the stop.We then had to do the 20 min walk through the city centre to the station. What's always a challenge with most train travel in Europe is finding firstly your coach number and then your seat reservation numbers.
We were in coach one..is it at the front or the back of the train?? Station Assistant not entirely sure, he but thinks one is in the front....no! minutes later message says one is at the back of the train , its a made scramble but we get there in time and into the right seat...well done again Ron and Sandie!!
We catch a taxi after starting to walk to the apartment but its to far , luckily lady host is waiting in the street for us...we are on the second floor between the main pedestrian mall and Cathedral but behind the apartment building is a long narrow alley way, with businesses and many other apartments.
However as our luck would have it we discover the queen bed base is stuffed... now I like close in bed but not rolling time and time again on top of each other..... funny thing, is why did she mention the couch in the living room converts to another bed, well now we know why.
Lets see what happens tonight.
Shopped at very close by mini supermarket for breakfast goodies but did have dinner out
Day 2 a lot more touristy for us, although we didn't start until 11am.
Yesterday we saw the home of Christoper Columbus just near a small Roman ruin and an old city gate
and towers..all VERY impressive
Today we saw two very big and imposing churches but both very different in decoration.
Revisited the port area and couldn't resist pics of the galleon built for a Roman Polanski movie some years back, its now a Genoa landmark.
Good lunch out.... dinner in.
