Our 2 days have been fantastic, we think that this is one of the must see cities of France.
It was a short easy train trip from Basel, about 49 minutes. When we arrived there was drizzly rain but this cleared in the early afternoon.
The room wasn't ready when we arrived but they happily held the bags in storage while we went exploring.
Good thing was, on check in we were given an upgrade to a privilege room, never had an upgrade before ,so felt very pleased, It turned out to be very big, quiet and comfortable.
We walked into the old town and saw some of the best half and full timber houses we have seen.
Managed to see two Cathedrals including the cities main church and what a sight it is, a most imposing , powerful structure, we also managed to look inside, after a line up of some 50mt,
I managed to get another disabling problem on returning to the room for a rest..at around 5.30pm an attack of vertigo hit.... something I needed to see a doctor about 15 years ago and never had an attack until today.. could not get off the bed without falling over.... what to do!!
Sandie springs into action and finds on the web the necessary exercise to dislodge the crystals in the ear canal and reposition them away from the inner ear drum.
2 HRS later after repeating the exercises the problem went away... its not something I'd wish on anyone.
NEXT DAY I'm ok.
Day 2 started soon after breakfast with a visit to an area of the old town known as Petite France, wonderful old buildings developed about a 1000 years or more around a series of canals....fantastic 2hrs walking around and exploring.
After that we found ourselves back near the Cathedral....we decided on another look inside.. it is very impressive
From there it was onto the Place du Chateau...Palais Rohan
This is a very large building housing 3 major Museums including some original rooms of the palace, a place where kings Louie IV and VI had resided at various times, so too did Napoleon.
The other 2 museums housed archaeological stuff from around 723 BC as well as a great collection of painting from the 1500 to 1800century.
Tonight we will be in search of a nice French meal.
As an example of whats to come at the next stop ..Baden-Baden check out the link,,we can't wait.
